Can you die from a choke hold if you're on too much xanax? My brother died on sept 4th of a Xanax overdose. He had taken Xanax bars, but no one is for sure how many he took. His toxicology test should be coming back soon, but not soon enough. He had bought a large quantity of Xanax bars off of an unknown person, my brother was going to supposedly sell them. My brother had woken up late that day, and missed his 2nd day of work. He was pretty upset, distraught. I have a feeling because of this he took more bars, but unfortunately I think he was already at toxic levels of xanax. He had 10 in total, I have a feeling he might have taken around 4 to 5. maybe 7. I cant really see him taking this many, but if he was out of his mind on Xanax, i'm pretty sure he could have.
(I know the complexity of this story, and i know many of you are going to have ill opinions, but spare them cause ive heard it all. Unless you think it will help me at all, go ahead and say it).
him and i had been abusing bars for some time. the most i have ever taken was about 3 or 4, the max 4. I never really drank on them, never wanted to. He was really thrill-seeking, and just was down for anything, regardless of the consequences. anyway, that day i was on 3 bars. I was out of it too. Before I got to his apartment, he had been in a car accident also. (This happened on the same day) He was turning into his apartment complex gate, and apparently was too dazed to make the turn correctly. He made it really late, and going at 30 mph. He crashed into an island and was really freaking out and scared, and you could tell he was really intoxicated by the bars. ( I'm not sure if h e had been drinking prior to this. ) I think i saw him drinking a little bit of malibu rum. So, after the accident he went to his apt, and I have a feeling he took even more xanax. Noone knows for sure though, because he was very manipulative and made sure noone knew what he was doing.
We went for a short drive to get more xanax for me, and when we came back he was noticeably upset. not at me, but by a situation at his apartment. At this time is where things start to get blurry. He had really butted heads with one of his room mates, and i think it really came out that night.
When my brother came back into the apartment he was missing bars and freaked out. (Initially) After this he started getting really violent and ripping his room apart, breaking his phone, breaking his plants and throwing his clothes, booze etc. He was very psychotic, and I have never seen him so violent. After he caused the mess, I think he forgot he caused it so demanded that everyone in the house clean it for him. People were not quick to this judgement, because they knew he was intoxicated on xanax.
This made my brother more upset that noone was cleaning or doing anything to help. I demanded that his room mate clean the alcohol on the floor, even though his room mate did not put it there. After his room mate refused, my brother shot up quickly and punched his room mate in the nose. Broke it, instantly. After he broke his room mates nose, he tried to throw him off the balcony. My brother was almost successful, his room mate was nearly off the rail, freaking out.
at this time, noone had a choice but to subdue my brother. Noone, including myself had ever seen him so psychotic. One of my friends who was there got my brother off of his room mate, and put my brother in a choke hold. He was in the choke hold for aboout 5 to 10 seconds. He took his last breath, it was a huge breath, and the friend who put him in the choke hold thought he just passed out.
after this, maybe about 5 seconds later, we realized my brother did not have a pulse. We then started panicking and everyone who was there gave him CPR. the CPR was unsuccessful and we then called 911. We were not allowed in the apartment, as we were all being questioned for 3 hours. The guy who put him the chokehold was also taken to the police station, and was questioned extensively.
The paramedics said he had vital signs, but we later found out he didnt. He was already unresponsive in the ambulence, and at the hospital.
my question is, could this choke hold could have killed him?
or was he already in for it with the amount of xanax and possibly liqour he consumed?
Matt replied: "5 to 10 seconds can't kill someone even with that amount of xanax in them."
Methadone overdoses? I need answers from people who know what they are talking about or have first hand experience! My wife passed away three hours after seeing her doctor.I tried CPR which I know from twelve years of the army.Anyway, they, the paramedics tried to shock her and gave her an injection of I beleive narcan with no help. She was prescribed Methadone.Xanax,Lexapro, andPromethazine, also Resperidol and Atienol for high blood pressureI beleive she overdosed and the attending physican at the hospital would not sign her death certificate nor would the coroner four days later when we had her funeral her doctor that prescribed all this medication signed it saying she probably died of heart failure and liver failure and diabetes. Is that strange or what?
Cutie RRT replied: "email me at"
rita_alabama replied: "That's kind of odd, but if the doctor was kind of concerned that she overdosed from all the meds he prescribed, maybe he was trying to cover his butt legally. You might want to talk to a lawyer to see if you have any legal recourse.
I'm really sorry for your loss, and hope everything works out for you."
steveangela1 replied: "I hate to say it, but the best thing to do is get an autopsy! and make sure they check the chemicals in her body.
lexapro and xanex for one should never ever ever be prescribed together let alone adding methadone
why the methadone? I know that lately they have been giving it for severe pain however with the other medications that sounds like too much for the central nervous system to handle.
email me if you have any questions. I am a respiratory therapist, and my husband is a paramedic"
why is my daughter resorting to drugs? my daughter is 14 years old. i am recently finding out things she is doing. first let me explain it all.
she was adopted by her father at age 3. her biological father was an alcoholic so i left him. she found out that her adopted father was not her biological father at age 10. i doubt this has anything to do with it but im not sure.
i am recently finding out that my daughter is doing drugs, smoking, having sex, and drinking. she is only 14 years old and has a whole life ahead of her. she may not have many friends. she has a great loving family. she recently got in touch with her biological father. we are not poor, and we live in a very nice part of town in a wealthy neighborhood. she is not involved in sports, or clubs. she gets all A's and B's, and is a great student.
last year, my daughter came home drunk and we had to call the paramedics. it was terrible. we punished her, and she gained back her trust. but now it is starting up. one day she was high and i had a talk with her. she told me every drug she has done.
she has done cocaine, marijuana, coricidin(tripple c's), xanax, oxycontin, valium, vicodin, percocet, etc.
(sorry about grammar and misspelling im in a rush.)
I recently overheard her talking and caught her by a text message
that she has been having sex with a boy we do not allow her to see.
i am not telling her father about this.
she has also been caught buying pain killers at school.
recently, all in one week i have found weed in her room and a tinfoil pipe along with a lighter and a pack of ciggerettes. i also walked in the next day and she was stoned out of her mind and i found her weed. 2 days later i come home to the house smelling like pot, and she was stoned.
i don't know what it is that is making her feel to resort to drugs. why do kids do drugs? she specifically told me that the last thing she wants is attention. she is going to be in high school next year and i dont want my daughter to be the girl with the reputation.
she also had 2 drug overdoses with tripple c's (14), and oxycontin.
we did not take her to the hospital, however she had signs of OD.
someone tell me what might be going on in my daughters head?
she sits in her room all day on the phone and does not have that
many friends. she has never been arrested, however caught many
times without drugs in her posession.
i do not know why she resorts to drugs, HELP.
i am not sure if she is depressed?
transom replied: "you called the paramedics because your daughter was drunk? i know why she resorts to drugs, and if you don't know then i'm not telling."
phillis replied: "hey i'm right around her age its nothing really to do with her being depressed or anything but if shes stressed out from school or home she may just need something to help her relieve that stress that may be shy she has resorted to this.....i wouldn't worry to much i mean when you were in high school you probably did shit you regret now let her live her life and learn from her own mistakes her choices will soon come to bite her in the ASS!"
Carmen S replied: "wow, I think you might need to go beyond yahoo answers for help with this. What I can tell you, from the point of view of a high school senior is that your daughter is one of many. And what I mean by that is that the amount of drug and alcohol usage on high school campuses is ridiculous. Your daughter probably is resentful that her adopted father, is not her biological father, and this could have led to some of her destructive habits; do not rule that option out because it could be very common. The pressure of high school can be overwhelming for many students especially those who fall into the group of "stoners" if that is what you would like to call them. I would guess that your daughter was naive and easily drawn into the drug scene maybe by thoughts of problems at home or a lack of love, and became dependent on what she thought would fix her problems
the best of luck to you and your family!"
Amy replied: "probably depressed in one way are another, Middle School is just plain nasty, especially without friends. If its not the friend thing, I'm going to say its something that you don't even know about, or a mixture of both. If you can talk to her and get her to respond honestly, the best thing to do would be to do that. I'm not sure on her personality, but most people, me included, don't want to talk with the way to openly sympathetic person because it makes it feel like your even less likely to understand. If you get her out of this whole drug situation and stuff again, its important that she doesn't have the same friends cause they'll pull her back into it. That said, she probably doesn't really feel like talking to a parent for the differences between generations and all, If you can find somebody her age, who really cares for her (maybe a past friend) or some Aunt that she can talk to, you might have a better chance of finding your answer.
Feel free to Email or whatnot."
inyrfcgul replied: "First-intervention...I'm sorry but both you and the father must make this step. She needs to be in a place without access to any drugs, alcohol or whomever is givint this crap to her-which should be your next step-to bring out her supplier. She is under 18.You need to go now.She needs counseling.Rejection and resentment are 2 powerful elements.I'm 37 and still feel it.GOD SPEED!"
Get answers from millions of real people.? Hi my name is Amber and I am desperate for help for my 31 year old sister. She is in jail right now on very serious charges of child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance. She has two boys a 3 year old and a 2 year old. When her first son was 3 months old she found out she was pregnant again. Her body, hormones and emotional state of mind never recovered from her first pregnancy before she was pregnant again. She went into a serious case of postpartum depression. Work was out of the question for her because of these two young babies. She never got to enjoy her first son like what I feel she should of because of the youngest needing so much attention being a new born. She began to self medicate with xanax and it did seem to help at first but it soon became a very bad problem The father worked offshore and was gone all the time to support his family..Her and the kids and the father lived with us in Fl until about 6 months ago and we all knew how depressed she was so he moved them out to Ala in a beautiful home and tried to give them a better life. This really made it worst because now her and the kids are all alone out their and she no longer had her family and friends . She sunk more into her depression and into her medication. Things quickly took a turn for the worst. She got caught with some painkillers and got arrested for driving under the influence with her children in the car. She went to jail and we bailed her out and she was ordered to probation and something called drug court where she had to do a urine test once a week. We thought this would stop her and scare her straight... It did not... She went to a doctor who come to find out he is what you call a script doc who writes scripts for cash. She got prescription for loritabs and xanax. She let the drug court people know that she got her scripts and she thought she found a way to beat the system.. They also made her attend drug classes she only told them about her xanax and failed to mention her loitabs which is a pain killer because that what she got caught with so if they found out about them they would make her stop taking them. Needless to say they tested here there and she failed for the hydrocodien (loritabs) if the truth was known she was probably nodding out from her xanax and they tested her and of course she was dirty. So, now she violated her probation. She went to jail that day but was allowed to be signed out until her court date this coming Jan. Well, with all this trouble she has gotten in her head is really messed up and let me mention my sister has never been in trouble before this. Drugs have made her a totally different person. She was a straight A student growing up. A very reasonable person and a loving mother as time went on a the drug dependency got worst. I'm sad to say but the pills became number one for her. To get to my point . Last week she was arrested for leaving her 3 year old son in the car strapped into the seat belt in the car asleep in her drive way over night. The car door was left open and he was left in there for about 12 hours over night when a neighbor found him and called the police. They found her passed out on the hall way floor in her house closed to a overdosed and her 2 year old was on the couch a sleep. I believe she got the 2 year old out and was going back to get the 3 year old and passed out that's why the door was left open. Words cant describe the anger we felt towards her for doing this. She could have killed him. We have left her in jail for what she has done to her kids. But she needs HELP desperately she is now possibly facing prison for what she has done but my sister never in her right mind do this to her kids. She loves those boys more then life its self and they love their mommy just the same . They were together 24-7 their whole life. This has ruined all of our lives. We have her children and they are fine. Lucky they are so young they dont understand what is happening and hopefully it wont scare them because I believe they wont remember this. I dont feel she needs prison but a rehab. At Least a year or longer. She is sick and anyone who knows about drug addiction knows it is a disease and a sickness. At that point she was incapable of taking care of them and passed out. She was probably close to dieing herself. I'm not sure but we have heard that she mixed methadone with her xanax that night. That is a deadly combination and she almost killed her children and herself. We need advice on what to do to help her get the help she needs. We wont get her out of jail because we know she has to pay for what she did to them babies but prison is not the answer. I feel that will only make it worst and not help the underlying problem of the depression that turned into a horrible drug addiction. flydog_38 replied: "It sounds like her behavior is becoming a danger to her kids, and they should be separated from her for their own safety. It also sounds like she has a serious drug problem, and the sad thing is that like alcoholism, she has to hit rock bottom before she will finally decide to kick her habit. SHE is the only person who can make the decision to do it. Please remember this fact when you're dealing with her - The only thing that matters to an addict is more of what they are addicted to. Addicts will lie, cheat and steal to get more drugs. I remember the rock singer David Crosby saying jail saved his life. Maybe the harsh reality of doing time will save hers."
CHERYL H replied: "My sister who is 27 has been dealing with addiction since she was 13. After being arrested the 3rd time, she faced hard time in prison. My dad and stepmom found a really good addictions program in Alabama and their lawyer got the judge to agree to this drug rehab in lieu of prison time. It is a great program and they have one of the highest success rates out there. Your sister needs help. I know that the courts are much more receptive to alternatives like drug rehabilitation programs. Please , don't give up! You and your family need to research drug rehab facilities and try to get the courts to allow her to get the help she needs! I am sending you the link to the program that my sister used. Don't be mistaken by the name of the program...it was originally set up for teens, but now they have an adult program as well. I pray that your sister and the rest of your family will be able to finally find some peace."

Mo Fayed replied: "This is bad news. It might be a good idea to get her out of jail if you possibly can, because if US jails are anything like UK jails, they are swimming with drugs. I have heard of people who came out of jail rich men because of the drug trades they carried out inside.
The health authorities should have had a better system in place for people who have a legally acquired drug habit (an elderly relative of mine has had osteoarthritis for much of her life, and has always needed strong painkillers.) This sort of addiction can be managed.
I hope things work out for your sister and her family."

Why not get her lawyer to check to see what psychiatric eval she could have?
I am glad your family have taken the children on rather than letting them go into care"
Mariel replied: "what an awful situation. drug addiction is an illness but that does not preclude the addict from responsibility and the hurt to others that it causes. your sister will not have success from any rehab program without realizing this. her children must be protected from her. whether she goes to prison or rehab, it is she that has to help herself and make the decision to be clean and sober for her children. her love for her children and her life must be stronger than the addiction. much is being learned now about how our brain chemistry is a party to set us up for an uphill battle and threat of failure. we must have compassion for the horrible plight of those who are slaves to their substances; but we must not lose sight of the fact that we have free will and it comes down to the decision to stop. your sister is very fortunate that she has you to step in and keep her children safe. that their mother endangered the lives of her babies is a fact. be sure that they are safe with her before they are returned to her care. my hopes and prayers are for the healing of your family."
